Scrappy Turquoise

I know I'm not the only one who hasn't finished their turquoise/aqua blocks. At least I  hope so! When I finally got the fabric, I did have so much fun sewing them together and they look so purty, IMHO. I finally got time to sew their little snowball corners on Saturday.

Part of my delay was I galavanted around Riverton, where Nancy Drew lives, on Spring Break. I got to visit 2 of a gazillion quilt shops there--and that's only within a 10 miles radius of her home. Okay, maybe I exaggerate a smidgen. Just a little.

It's amazing to go to Utah from a county that has 2 homegrown quilt stores, 1 Joann's and 1 California-based fabric/quilt/yarn/craft store. When I used to visit Nancy Drew in Massachusetts, her situation there was worse than mine! Now I'm eagerly waiting to go back to Utah so I can visit even more quilt stores my adorable grandchildren!

Here are my snowball blocks for March. I had fun finding some novelty fabric for this month. I guess only about half of these are scrappy. Then again, once I bought them they became part of my stash that I’ve been using to make my blocks! Nod if you agree!

If you number them right to left starting in upper left, here’s the skinny on the blocks.
1,3,5,7,8-10 were all from fat quarters from Utah
2 is a fun one from my stash
7 is a favorite that I keep cutting small pieces off to put in one quilt or another
9 is from a shirt I bought at Goodwill for fabric

I was much luckier this month than last. I had lots of purples to choose from! Next week I’ll show the ones I picked!

  1. Any logic that allows you to buy fabric works for me! Isn't it funny how quilt shops kinda congregate in certain areas while other areas are shopless? You'd think a city the size of Nashville would have lots to choose from ... NOT! Maybe because Whittle's is just a short drive north ......

    1. It's the truth! I've always looked forward to buying fabrics when I travel.Utah is the first place where I didn't have to search with a fine tooth comb!

  2. Folsom had a shop in the 00s, but went out of business after only 1 year...even though they have a giant quilt guild there. I think it's because they offered only brown and brownish fabrics. That may appeal to some, but not all of us. Anyway, we have a new store with gorgeous fabrics, and it seems like they are doing well. You can't just off the types of fabric you like - you've gotta stock a variety....And it's best if they offer the kinds I like. Lol

    1. I wanna know where that fabric shop is! Every once in a blue moon I get over to Sacto area. Now that my daughter lives over here, I don't get there much...but still it just might be a good reason to go!

  3. You are surely not the only person who isn't quite done with teal. What a great collection of fabrics-- they look great with the dark corners.

    1. Thank you for the compliments. I'm find that I'm glad I chose black for all the corners of my snowballs. I like the way it looks and it goes with everything!

  5. Such fun fabrics! I had been collecting fun ones for an I-spy quilt ...... my kids are going to be past that stage before I ever make one! I agree with your logic - I needed more teals for variety last month and then started a new quilt with them!
